Who can have acne?
The disease is the most common of all skin diseases in the world, thus it can affect anybody - rich or poor, white or black, male or female, young or old -. It is most common in young people as compared to old people.
Acne and gender
Acne is not a gender bias disease; it affects both males and females. This is because both males and females produce the hormone called androgen. The production of this hormone stimulates the sebaceous glands and causes them to enlarge. The disease develops slightly earlier in girls than in boys; this may be due to the fact that girls reach puberty earlier than boys. Boys tend to develop more severe acne than girls do, which is due to the production of androgen that increases in boys after puberty as compared to girls.

Prevention and treatment of acne
Acne can be prevented using the following methods:
- Eat carrots. Carrots contain Vitamin A which helps protecting the skin and makes the skin get rid of toxic substances. This will protect the skin against acne development.
- Avoid picking or squeezing pimples. It is dangerous to pick or squeeze pimples, since this may rupture them and cause an inflammatory reaction with the accumulation of white blood cells. This will lead to inflammatory acne, which is the severe type.
- Avoid using too much make up. Make up is not good since it blocks the pores and promotes accumulation of oil in the follicle and this will develop to acne.
- Face washing: wash your face especially with sulfur based soaps designed to treat acne. This will reduce the oil and prevent its accumulation in the follicle, which will help prevent acne. Methods of treatment may include using various alcoholic or aqueous solutions, creams foams, gels, lotions and ointments.
